Buy Corn On The Cob Popcorn

This is a fun activity in the fall months when dry corncobs, also known as Indian Corn, are abundant. We recently visited a local farm. After watching them mill dried corn into animal feed, they sent us home with organic cobs of dried corn to make into popcorn. Amazing, right?

My little one (with face paint) was so excited when it started popping in the microwave. We cooked it on the popcorn setting, which is about two and half minutes long. As with any other popcorn, open the microwave door when the popping sounds slow down.

I have always wondered if this really worked. Now I know it does and I will not have to waste those corncobs as decorations, I will be able to eat them too! You know I am all for eating, anything yummy and organic that is!Thanks for sharing this eatable experiment.

Oh my goodness! Apologies that my comment was so vague! I understand the corn was dried and not fresh! I want to clarify that corn is not grown locally, it is too cool along the coast and in the northern Salinas Valley. Either I must travel for fresh corn, or purchase at the supermarket.

Have you ever wondered where popcorn comes from? When I was a kid, I used to think that I could dry out the corn kernels from my summertime corn-on-the-cob and use them to make popcorn. When I finally got the guts to dry out the kernels and pop them, they burned and got stuck to the bottom of the pan.

There are several popular varieties of maize that are grown in the United States. However, only one of them, the Zae mays everta variety, will pop. Though this may seem limited, there are about one hundred different strains of this corn, and each of them varies according to flavor, texture, and how they pop.

Grown in Canada, this popcorn is rich in taste, smells amazing, and pops up large, white and fluffy. Like EVOO, popcorn contains antioxidants. Learn more about this amazing company (Ontario Popping Corn) here.

Hiding the zip top behind the popcorn is what makes these work so well. You need to make sure that you leave enough space in the bag to fold down the corners in order to make sure the top is fully hidden.

Inspired by memories of growing up on the farm and eating air-popped popcorn while watching a family film on a Sunday afternoon, this fresh popcorn has become a favorite at Petersen Family Farm. It's grown, hand picked, and dried to perfection. Each package contains two cobs, popping bags for each, and instructions, which makes them perfect for easy gifting.

Big Red Popcorn is gourmet popcorn grown in the heart of rural Nebraska. They began growing and manufacturing Big Red Popcorn on their family in 1996 located in Schuyler, NE. The whole family gets involved in the process of picking and packaging the popcorn ears.

This is popcorn in its purest form. No artificial anything, and nothing added except the convenient microwave popping bag. All natural and straight from the field, this treat provides you with 6 to 8 cups of popped corn. Grown and packaged in America. Perfect for snacking or gift giving.

No, you cannot make popcorn out of sweet corn. The shells that hold each kernel in place are simply not strong enough for this purpose. Popcorn cannot be made from every variety of corn because of the lacking shells and improper moisture.

In some cases, the corn may be too moist. In other instances, the corn may not be moist enough. To dry the corn, the corn on the cob must be placed inside of a low oven with the heat set to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

For best results, the oven door must be left slightly ajar. The ear of corn is then dried for 4 to 6 hours, as we take the time to rotate the cob every hour on the hour, so it dries in an even manner.

Pop your own popcorn right from the cob! Each ear of corn is ready to be popped in the microwave for a couple of minutes until it pops right off the cob. You might want to put them in a paper bag, as they're pretty explosive! Great for showing kids the links between things they might grow, and things they might eat.

Luckily for us, popcorn provides both of these nutrients, especially compared to other common snacks like chips and candy. Studies have even shown that popcorn eaters have twice the amount of whole grains in their diet and about 20% more fiber.

Another reason popcorn should be your snack of choice is because you can eat more for fewer calories. Other snacks can have triple the amount of calories in a 1-cup serving. So next time you're craving a snack, choose the one that allows you to have all of the flavor, with none of the guilt.

Popcorn's ability to pop lies in the fact that the kernels contain a small amount of water stored in a circle of soft starch inside the hard outer casing. When heated, the water expands, creating pressure within, until eventually the casing gives way and the kernels explode and pop. This allows the water to escape as steam, turning the kernels inside out.

The key to having more kernels pop is a constantly improved product. Throughout the years, popcorn processors have implemented significant hybrid popcorn seed research to continually enhance their product.

If yougarden with kids, making a scarecrow is an absolute must! And, it may actuallyhelp to keep the birds away. If birds are overly interested in your sproutingcorn, you could try using a chicken wire tunnel over each row.

Historians doubt that turkey was served at the first Thanksgiving dinner, but they know that popcorn was there. Quandequina, the brother of Chief Massasoit, brought a deerskin sack filled with popcorn to the feast. Popcorn, already a staple for Native Americans, became an important food for the colonists. It stored well and could be popped fresh all winter long to serve with meat, float on soups, and mix with maple syrup for popcorn balls.

The first time I planted popcorn, I just bought a big bag of unpopped popcorn (NOT mocrowave), soaked it in water overnight, then planted it as one would sweet corn. Followed my Dad's instructions once it sprang up. Had a buttery taste to it once popped without adding butter, popped it in oil. A funny story, I was talking with a patient about growing popcorn, when one of my co-workers heard what we were talking about....... she said, "You mean you can GROW popcorn?!" We asked her, "Where do you think it comes from?" Yep, and she claimed to be a country girl.

I was recently given an opportunity to grow anything I want to.I have an acre or 2, to work with. I was just wondering if there is any opportunity to make any money, growing popcorn, on that amount of land!!I will appreciate any help or advice, good or bad! I live in York pa. but the land is in Bedford pa. my nephew owns 150 acres! THANKS from a very recently retired Harley Davidson worker!! Looking for a hobby!!

Hi, Martin: Congratulations on your retirement and on thinking outside-the-box (popcorn box, that is). We can help you with the growing advice above, but the economics of the whole thing are very much location- and equipment-specific. Hopefully there are some commercial growers who wouldn't mind a little competition and can share a few kernels of wisdom here. For one thing, you'll need to figure out how to service your rows -- perhaps from your hog (and we don't mean the oinking kind)? Anyway, good luck! And feel free to send us a little taste test bag!

Popcorn-on-the-cob is a great crunchy snack that not only smells amazing when you pop it, but is perfect for customization. We like melted butter, kosher salt, and nutritional yeast on ours, but there are endless ways to doctor this snack!

We crunched in to find a nice crisp feel and a very tasty, strong but not overwhelming, sweet corn flavor. There was just the slightest hint of black pepper at times, enough to make a great taste even better. Very good popcorn!

To pop corn from off the cob, all you need is a brown paper lunch bag and a microwave. Update: stovetop directions below. Place a single ear of corn inside the bag and place it in the microwave for two minutes. Within a minute it starts to pop, the bag plumps up and you have popcorn.
